Once you've completed a world and all of its areas, you'll also unlock its trial form.

Trials are the same world again, but made more difficult. Enemies may have more health, there may be more mini-bosses, or even two bosses at the end of the run. Completing these trials gives you gems and alien DNA. This DNA can then be used to unlock new upgrades in the Skill Tree.
