Energy can be used in two different ways, it can either be used to go on a run through a world or spent on Quick Patrols.

You earn energy every twenty minutes, up to a maximum of twenty. However you can earn additional energy, making you go over this maximum amount. 

If you are out of energy, and don't feel like waiting, you are able to watch an ad to quickly refill your energy.
